Korean Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics And Gynecology

Moon Young Kim

Dear members of the Korean Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (KSUOG).

My name is Moonyoung Kim, the 11th president of the Korean Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and I would like to deliver few words as the newly elected president.

The KSUOG is an exclusive academic society conducting various researches in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Asia. The KSUOG was established in 1997 under the influence of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) with expectations to develop obstetrical and gynecological diagnosis. Currently, the KSUOG shares knowledge and information about ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology with its members and associates through active education, symposiums and researches. Throughout 2018 and 2 years of my term, the KSUOG is determined to actualize its exuberant and hopeful plans and goals as it heads towards its 21st anniversary.

First, the KSUOG will prioritize its members’ interests. Also, the KSUOG will foster an educational hub for scholarly exchange of ideas and knowledge between domestic and international members for the enjoyment of vibrant academic environment and improvement of the quality of ultrasound education.

Second, I would like to advance the KSUOG to expand its fields of expertise from obstetrics and gynecology to even gynaecology. Since obstetrics and gynecology prioritizes welfare of women’s health, the KSUOG will support the development of researches not just in ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology, but in other fields such as ultrasound in breast and thyroid to include more diverse range of diseases vulnerable to women.

Third, I promise to advance the quality of the KSUOG as South Korea holds extensive interests in ultrasonic diagnosis of obstetrics and gynecology. I am proud to affirm that South Korean ultrasonic technology and knowledge in obstetrics and gynecology are highly competitive even in the international realm. Such prestige was achievable due to passion and affection from medical practitioners who provide ultrasonic diagnosis as well as interests of people who receive the medical service. Since October 2016, the South Korean government extended benefits of prenatal ultrasound and provides up to 7 times of benefits to regular pregnant women. The implementation of such policy exemplifies people’s demands and practitioner’s capabilities in prenatal ultrasound. The KSUOG will continuously gather distinguished members to the society as the interests and demands for ultrasound in the field of medicine have increased substantially. Also, the KSUOG will be the center of development of ultrasound by advocating scholarly and academic programs and reorganizing the society to improve techniques of all medical practitioners.

Observing the history of application of ultrasound in the medical environment, obstetrics and gynecology has been its cornerstone. Since the development of obstetrics and gynecology and ultrasound are inseparable, the advancement of ultrasound technology is certain as long as obstetrics and gynecology continue to exist.

Lastly, I would like to show my deepest gratitude and thanks to all honorary presidents and executive board members who gladly accepted to serve as chief commissioners. Furthermore, I ask for continuous interests, participations and guidance from dedicated medical practitioners who thrive to preserve women health in the field of medicine. The members are the true lights of the KSUOG. The KSUOG will always value and support each and every one of the members dearly.

Thank you.
